Newborn accessories

There is nothing nicer than having a lifestyle newborn session in the comfort of your own home, with all your comforts close by so that you don't have to worry whether or not you've packed everything before you leave the house. All of the clients that i've had the pleasure of photographing have had such beautiful outfits and blankets for their little ones to be photographed in, but there have been a few times that i've been asked if there's anything that I can bring along to the session.

With that in mind, during the winter lockdown I began to think a little more about what kind of things I could bring along to a session that would still maintain the natural, organic, feel of my photographs but offered alternatives to parents who wanted to try some different things out, using accessories that weren't just their own that they had to hand. I've also looked at ways to make them as hygienic as possible under covid guidelines, which includes careful washing after each use and then once dry placing in their own separate bag, not to be touched until the day of the session by you, the parents.

It's safe to say that the pandemic has turned me into a blossoming prop-aholic! I'm so excited to share these with you, if you're having a newborn session with me in the next couple of months or are thinking about getting in touch, please let me know if you'd like me to bring any of these items with me!

Swaddles

Aren’t swaddles just the best? For thousands of years, swaddles have been chosen by mothers all over the world to keep their little one safe and secure. They provide comfort and security and also makes them extremely cosy and adorable!

I have a variety of beautiful swaddles that can be used during your session to wrap your baby in (not just the ones in this blog - so please ask if there’s another colour you’re thinking of!). They can also be used as a blanket to lay over them whilst snuggling in close for a cuddle and can even be used in photographs as a cover for a Moses basket or cot to create a beautiful backdrop while they're lying down.

Wooden signs

I just love these signs, they help to add narrative to your photography story and are so easy to place into a lifestyle newborn session. They can be propped on a nearby shelf, rested at the top of a cot or moses basket or held by a parent / rested on a baby whilst being cuddled.

Hearts

I love these. There is nothing sweeter than these tiny miniature hearts – they are so easy to place into a little one's hand by a big brother or sister, or to rest gently on top of their swaddle. They look perfect in a lifestyle session as they are such a subtle touch.

Headbands

Flower headbands and beautiful bows on little babies are just gorgeous, these can be used during your lifestyle session to add a bit of sparkle, especially if you want a slightly more styled session. Whilst my photography style is natural, there is the opportunity to add these kinds of accessories in if it's something you particularly like the idea of. I have a large collection of these, not just the ones in the photos so please do ask me to bring them along if you think you'd like to use them.

Flowers

Faux flowers are great to rest gently next to a baby whilst they're sleeping in their cot, or on the bed with parents, if you're looking to add nature into your photos this is a great way do it.
