Hey Mama-01.png

Hey mama. How are you feeling? Excited, nervous? Fed up of not being able to paint your toenails because you can’t bend anymore? Pregnancy is such a whirlwind of emotions - it’s amazing and often full of excitement - there is nothing better than carrying a little soul inside your tummy and being able to feel them move. You’ve worked SO hard to get to this stage, your body is doing an incredible job working overtime and carrying the babe you already love. Now is the moment to feel empowered, beautiful and deserving of being able to celebrate your body for what it is doing.

You’re here because you’re thinking, “actually it would be really nice to have some photographs taken to acknowledge and remember this stage in life, before it all becomes so different and i’m surrounded in nappies and baby wipes!”. I’m here to help with some tips on how to feel your best and be the beautiful mum-to-be that you are (even if you’re not sure you feel like it!) - and i’ll show you what everyone else sees in your gorgeous pregnant body.

My maternity sessions are relaxed and natural and I will often chat beforehand with clients on where they’d like to be photographed to ensure they feel their most confident. I use a variety of poses, make the most of available lighting and work with you to acknowledge how you’re feeling and what you’re able to do. I want you to look back at your maternity images and be proud of the amazing job you did!

I don’t know about you, but i find it hard enough to know what to wear on a daily basis, let alone decide for a photoshoot where the focus is solely on me! Don’t worry though - you’ll come out of this blog with a whole list of wardrobe item ideas that you might not have even considered when you first started reading. There are a few different options that you can go with, but i’ll explain the best options and more importantly - why to go with them!

Blocks of solid colour

These always look amazing, when looking at these types of images the human eye naturally falls to where a client’s bump is and a solid colour will ensure that there’s no distraction and the focus is solely on your beautiful tummy. All plain colours work great, especially blacks and whites, as long as they go nicely against your skin tone. The beauty of solid colours also means that they are great to accessorise with - some people love keeping it simple and elegant but if you love to accessorise then it add to your look with beautiful jewellry, scarves and even belts!

Seasonal

What time of year is it? Co-ordinate and match your outfit with the season we’re in - if it’s autumn go for beautiful berry colours, spring or summer soft pastels and if it’s winter accessorise with scarves and cute cardigans which layer really nicely against your tummy.

The Maxi Dress

Without fail, a maxi dress always looks beautiful in maternity pregnancy photo sessions. There’s something about the way the soft fabric sits against your bump and then falls away nicely down your sides without leaving you feeling conscious about any lumps or bumps. It’s also INCREDIBLY comfortable and if it’s a hot day the last thing you want is to feel hot and flustered. If there’s a breeze on the day of your photoshoot, then the loose fabric also acts really nicely to add a sense of movement to an image. You definitely can’t go wrong!

Go for timeless

You’ll have these photos forever, when you’re deciding on what outfit to wear, think to yourself will I regret wearing this. Try and avoid branding and logos, this one is especially for the guys in your life who might want to join in the photo session. There is nothing wrong with going a little more simple!

Textures

Adding some texture to your look is a really great way to add more depth and dimension to you photos. Think lace dresses, embroided clothes, a wool cardigan to go with a lovely top that skims of your pregnancy belly and accentuates your bump and a nice pair of jeans to finish the look. If you don’t like having prints on your clothing it’s a good way to make what you’re wearing more interesting.

Consider what your partner and children are wearing

if you aren’t alone for your session, it’s a really good idea to think about what the rest of the family will be wearing. Try and co-ordinate colours and styles, pinterest is great for looking at different ways colours can match together. The key with having lots of people in your photographs is to keep the outfits as simple as possible, try and use block colours where you can to avoid the eye being distracted by lots of different patterns once your get your photographs.

I hope all of this helps! I’m always here to answer more questions should you have any!
